Brahma
One of the major gods of Hinduism. He was the creator.
Brahman
The highest and everlasting soul or spirit of the universe in Hinduism.
Ceremony
A formal act performed as a ritual or custom.
Chapattis
A flat, disk-shaped bread of northern India, made of wheat flour, water, and salt.
Community Centre
A building used by local people for gatherings or activities.
Emperor
The male ruler of a kingdom.
Famine
A strong, wide-reaching food shortage.
Gandhi
The man who helped India become it's own country instead of being run by another country.
Ganesha
The Hindu god of wisdom. He is the god who removes obstacles.
Government
The group of people in charge of a country or state.
Hindu
A religion followed by most of the people living in India and other parts of the world.
Incense
An aromatic substance burnt for its smell especially in religious ceremonies.
Industry
Making things and selling them.
Krishna
8th and most important image of Vishnu; Usually seen as a handsome young man playing a flute.
Mandir
A Hindu temple.
Mehndi pattern
Putting a brown paste made from Henna on the skin to make a decorative pattern.
Monsoon
A wind that brings heavy rainfall in the summer.
Murtis
A picture or 3D model of a Hindu god.
Muslim
A person who follows the religion of Islam.
Population
All of the people living in a certain area.
Rangoli pattern
A decoration that uses finely ground white powder and colours. Seen outside homes in India.
Sacred
An object that is so important it is worthy of respect.
Sari
A piece of long fabric usually worn by women. It is wrapped around the waist to make a skirt and then draped over the shoulder.
Sewage Treatment
A place where all the dirty bits are taken out of water to make it clean.
Shiva
One of the major gods of Hinduism. He was the destroyer.
Shrine
A place someone can show how much they care about another being or object.
Terrain
The surface of an area of land.
Tourist
A visitor to the country who is on their holidays.
Traditional
A behavior or thought that has been followed by people from generation to generation.
Vegetarian
A person who does not eat meat.
Vishnu
One of the major gods of Hinduism. He was the preserver.
Wisdom
Being wise and able to see or judge what is true, right, or lasting.
