The Mandir is thought to be God’s home on earth. Hindus take off their shoes and leave them outside to show respect. They also ring the bell before going in. This is like knocking at the door to let someone know that you’re there.
Mandirs are usually very lavishly decorated on the outside and on the inside.
In the MandirHindus bring food and flowers which are placed near the murtis. People join in whilst the priest offers prayers and burns incense.
A prayer called Gayatri Mantra praising the sun is said. When Hindus pray in a Mandir they bow. Sometimes their heads touch the ground. This shows love and respect for God.
